Chapter 2 by MoxxiBits MoxxiBits

What do you find?

A rusty dagger

Eventually you come down from a bound and stop yourself just before you can send yourself up with another. Something new flashes in your perception. Something that isn't the grass, dirt, or water you have grown used to over the past few minutes. It seems like a familiar shape, but if you are honest with yourself the loop of bouncing, landing, perceiving, and repeating has begun to numb your brain. This new thing though that has appeared in your latest bound has quickly begun to snap you back to your mission... To excel in this second chance of life you have been given, in spite of the handicap of starting as a ball of slime, but more importantly to survive.

As you bounce once more, this time to bring yourself right next to the item sticking out of the moist soil, you are sure of it. This will help with your goals, your first piece of equipment. Its a pretty shitty piece of equipment. Probably abandoned by its previous owner once they figured it no longer had value, even as vendor trash [a concept in RPGs for items that exist in the game with the sole purpose of being sold to vendors, and no of no benefit to players except for the value a vendor will pay for them]. That previous owner also may very well have been right. As you jiggle yourself around the thing in front of you, pushing it ever so slightly to unbury its tip reveling to you that it is a dagger, in exceptionally poor quality. You a pretty sure the risk of tetanus is a greater threat from this thing than the blade itself. None the less it is a dagger, and a dagger means being able to make attacks.

Wait... you are a slime. Will you even be able to equip it? You have seen presentations of fantasy where slimes use equipment, but those tend to be the overly cutesy ones, and you aren't sure if you wouldn't rather throw yourself upon your newly found blade and try again for a new life than to accept the fate of being stuck in one of those worlds. Yet, if you could even just prop the hilt within you, you might be able to use the blade as part of your bouncing as a type of attack. So, that is what you attempt.

Pressing your weight upon the pommel you struggle for a moment before *glorp* the butt of the weapon pierces into your form. It is a weird feeling, to have your surface tension broken but not ruptured, to have the stiff leather wrapped handle pushed deep into you. Suddenly, as it penetrates you, to your very core, you can feel every detail of the worn grip warps, the divots and dents in the metal, the fizzling of the rusting object reacting to your inner fluids as it continues to draw itself into you.

THE FIZZLING OF THE RUSTING!!!... CONTINUES TO DRAW ITSELF INTO YOU!!!

Like Hydrogen peroxide on a fresh wound you feel a sting, as like an Alka-Seltzer the dagger begins releasing a torrent of fizzing bubbles within you as it is enveloped in your form. There is no release or build up of any gas, though you would expect from the feeling that there would be. No. If anything you feel a part of you satisfied, in the same way that you would finally feel some satisfaction at the end of a long day when you would eat your one daily meal.

It only takes a few moments, maybe a minute, you have no concept of time with the inability to see, and its gone. Panic is quenched with discontent, as you feel a sensation akin to a burp. You feel an anger beginning to grow inside yourself. Your first piece of equipment and you go and eat it. If you are fair with yourself you aren't sure what you were expecting. You still can't see if you even have a projectable status sheet, let alone any way have possessing an inventory beyond what you can physically hold.

And...

You're a slime. Holding things isn't really your forte, and that isn't to mention the fact that you were just a moment before hoping that the world you wound up in wasn't one of the cutesy ones where things like slimes and poros are the knight and warriors of the world.

*Ding*

Wait! You heard a chime! That means something happened. Did you level up? Dang-it without being able to properly see you can't see any stats so you are just stuck guessing on what that chime might have meant. Regardless, you have come a short while from where you started, and are beginning to wonder if you should continues following the pond's shore looking for a river to follow, or if you should venture into the fields opposite it.

Fields or Shore?
