The Christmas tree is a festive tradition that dates back more than 200 years in the UK.
It’s a classic, an icon, and one that needs no alteration. Right?
Well, not according to Argos, who are offering up a different option for 2024. Enter, the Umbrella Tree.
For the slightly startling price of £157.50 (currently reduced from £175) you can pick up the 8ft Umbrella Tree, described as a ‘special style’ and a ‘different option to the traditional shape.’
The unique design by Premier Decorations is meant to be decorated from the top, with the decorations hanging down.
There are no layers of fir branches here, instead, the ‘tree’ is concentrated high up (as per an umbrella) with a sort of fake-needle covered pole fixed into a base on the floor.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, shoppers have been baffled by the unusual creation.
The ‘questions and answers’ section of the product page – usually where customers ask queries related to a specific item – reveals much confusion.
‘Where is the rest of it? You are joking, right?’ asked one confused person. While another simply asked: ‘Just why?’

But not everyone seemed to be totally against the Umbrella Tree, with one asking for styling tips: ‘Can a picture be added showing how this would be decorated please?’
It’s also not the only alternative tree offered by Premier Decorations on the Argos website.

There’s also the 7ft Standing Upside Down Christmas Tree which is, you guessed, your traditional tree but turned on its head, also costing £157.50.
There’s also a 6ft Crescent Moon shaped tree and Argos also sell a Grinch-esque 6ft Curved Top Slim Christmas Tree.
