This is very interesting. I never knew Thomas Jefferson and President Barack Obama had so much in common when it comes to dealing with terrorists and/or pirates. President Obama also refuses to pay ransoms for hostages. President Obama has also sent military force to fight and kill ISIS. President Obama has also negotiated with several other nations, including Middle East nations to join in the fight against ISIS. And we all remember when President Obama all but ended the threat of Somali Pirates by sending the US Navy in to protect ships and kill pirates.

I think that speaks very highly for both of them.

 

If that is 100% factual, his idea to do it, I commend him and urge him to keep it up! We have to defeat these people (ISIS) now while they are still in their infancy. They will NEVER stop until they are all dead. It's a shame to think like that, but it would appear to be fact.

A little loose with the facts, but an interesting synopsis.

1.) There was no US ships before the American Revolution.
2.) The US Navy was formed under President John Adams in 1794, because the French had seized over 200 US merchant vessels.
3.) The US Marines Corps were founded also by Adams as a ship board fighting force under the navy.
4.) The Barbary Coast action saw only 8 US Marines as part of a 500 man Arab and European mercenary force against Tripoli.
5.) The captured US seamen were released after a ransom payment of $60,000 was paid by Jefferson in 1805

 

I'm not sure what the point of this little essay might be, but in the 18th and 19th centuries, a lot of land was invaded, conquered and looted, and the native peoples destroyed or enslaved, all sanctioned and justified by the current Christian theology.

 

It put an end to the depredations of the Barbary Pirates. That is what matters.
